Larry Painter Clinic, Berryville, VA – Mazikeen

Well, nothing like updating a blog for events that happened from January 10-14th in Mid June…

Mazikeen and I had quite a bit of setbacks at the beginning of this clinic. She laid down the best arena run of her life at the January trial, and I got her into the arena for my lesson, and she was badly crashing at the top, not respecting her flanks, and stops. We had been doing a lot of driving, and that was part of the reasons that she struggled to gather and balance stock to me.

So, we went back into the small 100 x 100 pasture. Let’s just say that I had to spend an entire lesson pushing her out on the top and reminding her to stay off unless necessary.

By the end of the clinic, we were back to doing and controlling cattle in the arena, but it is so frustrating sometimes to have these major training setbacks.
