Larry Painter in Illinois

Back from posting hiatus!

I love stopping at Agility at the Farm, and the first week in May belongs to the Larry Painter Clinic. I had one working spot, which I split between Mazikeen, Chunky, and Rory.

Mazikeen:

  • working on removing the flipping, especially on the inside come bye flank
  • she is still shouldering her sheep some
  • drove sheep on a line, then did an inside flank to fetch in each direction
  • drove sheep on a line and flipped into a cross drive on each direction.
  • inside flanked to turn sheep the other direction, then inside flanked 270 degrees to a fetch
  • need to find the correct eye
  • need to out a bit more and let go of the stock
  • letting go of control is hard
  • small pen work kicked out to the arena
  • wanted to hold stock to me rather than get around cleanly until i showed her

Chunky:

  • struggled to find balance on the Away flank, especially, coming up short
  • I need to walk at a 45 degree angle to help pull her around
  • outs seem to be good
  • she is being thoughtful and under control
  • struggled to let go of the sheep sometimes
  • good outs
  • better commitment on the flanks
  • still riding the hips around on the stock
  • still starting to come in and push around 10 o’clock
  • small pen work
  • come bye went well
  • away she got smashed by a sheep and got sticky
  • had a harder time with a lighter set of sheep in the duck arena
  • intent was good, pushed too hard

Rory:

  • need to work on being calm under pressure in corners
  • work on getting around without Chewing on things
  • stops were ok
  • need to get the shoulder to yield a bit more on the go around
