In preparation for the herding trial at nationals, we went to the Jan Wesen clinic at my friend Anya’s house at Flying Bucket Farm. I participated with Mazikeen, Chunky, with Rory swapping in for some of the ranch style elements on day 3. We actually went through the 12 herding training steps in the big field on a mix of sheep and cattle.
The last day, we worked through the ASCA Ranch Trial Course, where we had to bring 10 cows from the hay ring, to the pen, sort the cows with white, pen everyone, and then exhaust everyone. We also did some farm work, sending cows through the footbath, gate sorting, and moving them. I was so pleased with everyone, especially Rory!
