So, our Australian Cattle Dog Club of America decided to put together an inaugural Top 20 event for the nationals in 2024 for both the regular and owner handled categories.
Last year Mazikeen was invited to Royal Canin, finishing #10, and her mother Fiddle finished the year as the #20 cattle dog. This night was… spectacular. The lights were dimmed, and we were allowed to pick out special songs that represented our relationships. We went around the ring to applause. Everyone got their names and biography printed into a program, and the event was livestreamed.
Mazikeen went in first, moving to the song “Could Have Been Me” by the Struts (which is her theme song)… She was able to be her feral kangaroo self, and demonstrate just why I love her so much.
My time with Fiddle was the most special though. She is the reason I have everything, and the very heart and soul of my breeding program. I started to cry as we gaited to Lindsay Sterling’s “Something Wild”… We did a loop, and two down and backs, and then I sat down in the middle of the ring for some belly rubs and special kisses.
The night will be forever in my mind, my two most amazing girls, together, on stage to celebrate our accomplishments.
Always remember…
“An even though you’re scared
You’re stronger than you know
If you’re lost out where the lights are blinding
Caught in all, the stars are hiding
That’s when something wild calls you home, home
If you face the fear that keeps you frozen
Chase the sky into the ocean
That’s when something wild calls you home, home”
