This was… supposed to be our year… and in a way, it really was, despite being unable to really showcase your stuff.
Our dreams to come in and compete in Versatility were dashed when you came into season 3 days before the obedience and rally trial, meaning that you couldn’t actually showcase your amazing talents in those venues, however, you still were able to excel at our very first Australian Cattle Dog Club of America Nationals.
Aside from making the top 10% of the breed pick out of almost 200 dogs, participating in the inaugural top 20 with Fiddle, you won the versatility conformation class out of 10 dogs, and gave me 110% in all of your herding runs.
We were so close on our intermediate cattle runs! You handled the stock several dogs had challenges with like an old pro, and kept those sheep grouped and together the entire time! Your outruns were mostly a thing of beauty, and I am so proud of how you checked your intensity going out to the sheep right after working the tough cows.
As a first time intermediate handler, I wasn’t 100% sure how to set up these drive lines on real stock, and you gave me your everything.
We only got one qualifying run on sheep, but that was enough to qualify for the Steve Waltenberg Memorial Award.
I couldn’t be more proud of you and the future.
Love you Feral Kangaroo.
