Herding at Promised Pastures

My dear friend Christa has a herding facility in Louisiana that she has wanted me to come visit for a long time now. So, after the show in Jackson, MS, I drove out there to see her for a few days.

We really needed to get more time on ducks with Fiddle and Mazikeen. They both… try to control with their mouths a bit too much :/ when the ducks don’t follow their commands. Mazikeen often overflanks and pushes super hard, which translates into splitting ducks and sometimes going off line on the fetch. We also just needed more time on this particular kind of stock to get comfortable with holding and driving lines. This is also made harder by some of the mistakes that she made while she was learning (and i was learning too), like her creeping to try to get everything to gather, rather than following the drive lines.

Rory worked on getting to balance and rating stock, Chunky was in a small square and worked changing between fetching and driving, and Sue was along for the ride!
