Jan Wesen – Upstate NY

It is time again for the Jan Wesen clinic! It was at Cherry Hill Farm in Honeyone Falls, NY.

On the first day of the clinic, I worked Sue, Rory, Chunky, and Mazikeen on the fundamental steps. And then the next two days, I worked Rory, Chunky, Mazikeen, and Fiddle interchangeably (depending on the exercises and skills).

I created a schematic of my favorite skill that we worked on (with Chunky, Mazikeen, and Fiddle).

  1. The handler is the yellow circle, the dog has to gather the sheep into the triangle pen, and then push them so all of their heads are into the corner, jammed as tight as they could be
  2. The dog then has to pass between the handler and the sheep to go into the corner to get the sheep out
  3. The dog then has to cover the stock, and bring them back to the handler on the end of the panel
  4. The stock needs to settle with the dog holding balance, but not pushing them back into the pen or away from the field.
