Dave Viklund in Tazwell, TN!!!!!

I finally got to go to my friend Kathy’s house for a clinic with my favorite clinician! We worked some cows that are not super used to dogs working them, so we had to put a different type of pressure on them to hold them.

I worked Mazikeen, Rory, and Chunky through two spots the entire weekend, and we had to spend time to get the dogs to move beyond the first point of contact (riding the hip and following), to get them truly toward the point where they could control the cattle by themselves. This was the primary focus with Rory and Chunky. With Mazikeen and her driving, we had to make sure that she was pushing hard enough to stay in contact with the stock so the cattle don’t drift, but not punching the bubble too hard to cause running or splitting of the stock. This will reduce the need of dogs to constantly cover and flank too.

The food was wonderful, the company was great… and I learned so much
